Why Is My Air Conditioning Not Cooling?

Dec 1, 2021Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning Not Cooling

Have you ever been in a situation with your air conditioning not cooling? Most people have, and this problem can be pretty stressful, especially during the hot summers. Most air conditioners will malfunction for several reasons.

  • A Dirty Air Filter

This is the most common culprit for your AC not cooling. If the filter is clogged with dirt or dust, then you could have your air conditioner not blowing cold air but running. The dirt in the filters will block the cool air from passing, and warm air will be stuck inside the ducts.

Solution: It’s straightforward with this problem; simply get the filter checked or change it.

  • Wrong Thermostat Settings

You may need to constantly check on your AC thermostat settings, especially if you find your air conditioner not blowing cold air or blowing cool air and then turning back to lukewarm air. When you face this problem, your thermostat could be on auto mode.

Solution: To sort this out, change the thermostat settings from auto mode to “on” mode.

  • A Dirty Outside Unit

If you find that your air conditioner is working but not cooling. The following could be happening;

The Evaporator – The inside unit could be absorbing heat from the air around you and then transferring it to the outside AC unit.

Condenser – This is the outside unit. It could be condensing the hot air into cool air. With a clogged condenser, the AC will not perform its cooling task well because the dirt and debris could be blocking it from performing an even heat transfer.

The solution: clean your condenser and then give it enough room to breathe. Also, remove the dirt and weed surrounding it.

  • Faulty Motors

The fan’s motor can either be faulty or broken, which will lead to a situation where your air conditioner is working but not cooling. It will be unable to dissipate the heat, interfering with its cooling ability.

Solution: This can only be handled by a professional. Find someone to repair the motor for you.

  • Low Refrigerant Level

The Refrigerant is vital as it absorbs the surrounding heat and when it’s absent, it will lead to your AC not cooling. When your AC does not cool, then the Refrigerant could be leaking.

Solution: When you can identify the problem, find a professional to immediately fix your Refrigerant so your AC can start working well again.

  • A Damaged Compressor

The compressor is used to manage the Refrigerant flow and works between the condenser and evaporator. When you find your air conditioning not cooling, the compressor is damaged.

Solution: Find a replacement or hire a professional to fix this for you.
